Momshell Modern Home with Gillian
Hi Momshells!
Welcome back the site! I have had some major life changes this summer and I thought I would take a minute to share some life updates.
This summer has brought along a lot of exciting changes for myself and my kiddos.
In 2017, I went through a mostly amicable split from my children’s father and we were divorced in the spring of last year.
A second chance at love came along earlier this year and I met and fell in love with my soul mate Bryan, a dad of three young kiddos.
We bought a five bedroom home in Missouri and moved in together last month and blended our families. With five kiddos ranging in ages from 3 to 11, it’s been quite an adventure!
We’ve all navigated through lots of adjustments and more laundry than we imagined but mostly a lot of laughter and love.
In moving into this new home, I’ve had to get rid of the majority of my frilly bachelorette decor that I bought rebelliously when I moved into my own place a year and a half ago.
Sparkly silver frames and candle holders, mirrored cabinets and dressers, chandeliers and girly lamps don’t seem to work in this new home which has a lot of warm, wood throughout.
I’ve had the greatest challenge coming up with uncluttered and simple decorating ideas for the smaller spaces throughout the home and with a large home to decorate, I’ve been trying to adhere to a somewhat strict budget.
This week, I thought I would share with you two spaces that I decorated for around $200! I’m also going to be sharing with you the links to the items so that you can update your space and get some fabulous deals!
Entryway Makeover
Our new home has a beautiful rich oak floor that spans through the large front entryway, office and dining room which make up the front half of our home.
The challenge for me was to find modern pieces that would bring a chic rustic feel to the space without taking away from the elegance and simplicity.
Many of you know that I’m an avid Amazon shopper and for convenience, I found many pieces to decorate the entryway to my home with a chic farmhouse feel!
Check out this before and after!
Total cost to revamp this space: $213!
The table was the most difficult piece to select since I was dealing with a narrow corner and it was tricky to find a finish that would complement the warm wood floors.
This Industrial Console Table was only $129 on Amazon and took less than an hour to assemble!!
The cute Buffalo Check Pillow Cover ($10.99 for two) and “Bless This Nest” Decorative Pillow Cover ($7.99) were inexpensive and complement this Metal Ring and Glass Lantern that I picked up from a home decorating store called At Home that is located here in Chesterfield Missouri. I also ordered a set of 18 x 18 Pillow Inserts from Amazon for $10.99.
I had a large mirror that survived the move from my bachelorette pad to our new home and hung it above the table to open up the space. This Farmhouse Chic Watering Can Vase ($18.99) and Peonies ($7.99) accent the top of the table leaving plenty of space for phones and keys when we have guests visiting.
Front Porch Makeover
The front of our home has a lot of large windows and a sprawling porch just begging to be adorned with pieces to create a relaxing space for summer nights or crisp fall evenings.
We also have awesome sidewalks and the school bus picks the kids up right in front of our home so I wanted to create some seating without cluttering the space.
I also LOVE decorating an outdoor porch for the fall and winter holidays so I wanted to stick to a neutral palette that would complement any season.
Total Cost of Front Porch Makeover: $208!
The first piece I purchased was this 5′ x 7′ Threashold Worn Stripe Outdoor Rug from Target for $59.99 (I used my Red Card and saved 5%).
This charming black wicker 3 Piece Outdoor Bistro Set was only $109.99 from Walmart.com and super easy to assemble!
The bistro set came with chair cushions but I jazzed them up with two more Buffalo Check Pillow Covers ($10.99 for two) and a small Tabletop Boxwood Plant accents the table with simplicity.
We have loved sitting out here relaxing on summer evenings keeping a close eye on our kiddos while they ride bikes and play in the front yard!
I hope you enjoyed these money saving decorating tips!
